Within Tabriz production, Alabaf has specialised in large-format medallion rugs, classical pieces from roughly 300 × 200 cm and well above, ideal for spacious living and reception rooms. The workshop adheres strictly to the classical Tabriz school: a central medallion, four corner spandrels, and an elaborately worked floral main border.
Alabaf rugs are predominantly knotted from kurk wool on a cotton warp, with 50 to 60 Raj as the typical quality grade (corresponding to 250,000 to 500,000 knots per square meter). Individual pieces occasionally reach higher Raj values with silk accents.
The colors are traditional: indigo blue, deep red, ivory, and gold accents. Alabaf produces in a more classical than experimental vein.
Alabaf pieces are a sound address in the German and European trade for large-format Persian rugs. They offer authentic Tabriz quality at moderate prices compared with the finest silk-Tabriz pieces.
