The Seirafian family is the best-known master weaver dynasty of the 20th-century Isfahan school. The workshop was founded by Haj Mohammad Seirafian, who established a knotting workshop in Isfahan in the 1930s and trained his sons and grandsons in the classical Isfahan tradition. Today the workshop is carried on by several family branches in the third and fourth generation — the brothers and nephews each run their own ateliers but all produce under the "Seirafian" signature.
Seirafian rugs are known for one of the finest knotting qualities in the world. Knot density reaches 800,000 to over 1,000,000 knots per square metre, which is top tier even by international standards. The pile uses only the finest cork wool from the necks of young lambs, often combined with silk pile for outlines and accents. On the very finest pieces the warp is natural silk.

Almost every Seirafian rug bears a knotted-in signature in the lower border, usually in Persian script. The signature names the relevant branch of the family (e.g. "Seirafian — Mohammad"). Well-preserved pieces trade in the upper four- to high five-figure range; individual pieces by Haj Mohammad personally can be found at six-figure levels.
Seirafian rugs are valued not only as collector pieces but also as flagship rugs for prestige interiors. They count as a safe store of value because the family keeps production strictly limited — only a few hundred signed Seirafians are made worldwide each year. For lovers of classical Persian rug art, a Seirafian is the reference.
